The season is upon us, and we do not have to go far to feel it — decorations, the town festival, the songs, the hunt for a gift. Those things can lift a room. They can also leave people who are less able than they once were feeling left out. Seniors can be especially vulnerable to that loneliness.
There is a lot of pressure, and we are all busy. A few small choices can brighten the season for someone you love.
Remember what the season is about
Time together belongs at the top of the list. Sit and talk. Listen. Watch an old holiday movie. Do a craft. Play a game. Your time can be more precious than a gift.
If they cannot come to you, bring a little of the season to them. A regular visit or call can loosen the solitude.
Keep the familiar things close
We attach good memories to an ornament, a recipe, a tradition. Help them take part in those, if they want to — decorating, a special meal, the usual trappings. Simplify the plan so they can be in it. Remind them they matter. Do not make it feel like a duty. Show them they are loved.
Leave room on your own plate
Do not take on so much that you cannot enjoy the day. Slow down a little.
We hope these notes help you spend real time with the people you love. If Home by Choice can take a task that would otherwise pull you away, contact us for a free consultation.
From all of us, happy holidays.
